Finally Friday!

School started on Tuesday. The kindergarten students were on staggered start but we will have them all on Monday. Today we had one child arrive who got on the wrong bus! He was supposed to be at another elementary school. He was remarkably calm about it. One of our TA's took him on a tour of the school. When his mother came to pick him up she said that most of the kids in her neighborhood are in the arts magnet program and he just went with them. I wonder if we'll see him again?

I sent check-out procedure letters to all the 1st-5th grade students. I also sent lost book notices to about fifteen students. When I sent the letters I had already reduced the prices of the older books. I figured that most kids could come up with $2 or $3 on their own. Today one child returned a book that he found in his sister's toybox; two fourth graders paid for their lost books with their allowance money. I told them I was proud of them and I am. My boss also waived two fines after she talked to parents. I know that books will get lost but I still want to take care of the books that we have! Even so we will be weeding the fiction section with a vengeance. Some of those titles haven't moved in years and they need to find a new home.

I also started my classes this week: library management on Monday and leadership & management on Thursday. Six credit hours! I feel like the little engine that could. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....
